The yew tree is a type of tree that can be grown using the Farming skill in Old School RuneScape (OSRS). Yew trees are notable for their high yield of yew logs, which are highly sought after for their use in woodcutting and fletching.
Seed Information
To plant a yew tree, players must first obtain yew seeds. Yew seeds can be obtained from:
- Various monster drops, including the Tree Spirit and certain high-level monsters.

Growing Requirements
In order to grow a yew tree, players must meet certain requirements:

- West of the Tree Gnome Stronghold.

Planting Process
To plant a yew tree:
- Use the yew seed on an empty tree patch.
- After planting, wait for the seed to grow into a small sapling.
- Watering the sapling is not necessary, as it will naturally grow in time.
Growth Time and Yield
Yew trees take approximately 8 hours to grow to maturity. Once fully grown, the tree will yield:
- 1-3 yew logs when chopped.
- Experience reward of 125 Farming experience when the tree is grown and harvested.
- Additional experience is gained if you use the proper woodcutting technique, such as using a higher-level axe.
Chopping Yew Trees
When players chop a yew tree, they may use any woodcutting axe. The following axes are ideal for effective woodcutting:
- Rune Axe
- Dragon Axe (increased efficiency with the use of the special attack)
- Infernal Axe (provides additional benefits when cutting trees)
Farming Contracts
Yew trees can also be grown as part of Farming Contracts in the Farming Guild, which can yield additional rewards, such as extra seeds or experience when completed successfully.
Additional Information
Yew logs can be used to create a plethora of items, such as:
- Yew longbows (requiring Fletching level 68)
- Yew shortbows (requiring Fletching level 60)
- Upholstery and construction items in the player’s house.
Yew logs also serve as a valuable resource in obtaining Runes and can be burned for higher level logs at certain firemaking levels.
