Seaweed (Farming)

Seaweed is a unique and valuable resource in Old School RuneScape (OSRS) that players can farm through the Farming skill. It serves as a key ingredient for several crafting processes, most notably for making potions and crafting items. Below are the essential details regarding the farming of seaweed.

Requirements:

  • To farm seaweed, players need access to the “Farming” skill and have the ability to create a Seaweed Patch, which requires a player’s Farming level of at least 35.
  • Seaweed patches can be found near the shoreline, specifically in the following locations: near the Farming Guild and in Hosidius and Catherby.

Unlocking Seaweed Farming:

Players need to have unlocked the ability to farm seaweed by completing the quest “A Porcine of a Quest.”

How to Obtain Seaweed Seeds:

  • Seaweed can be obtained by using a seaweed seed to grow it, which can be planted in a seaweed patch.
  • Players can get these seeds by looting Treasure Chests, or by purchasing them from other players or the Grand Exchange.

Planting Process:

  • Once you have seeds, find a suitable seaweed patch.
  • Right-click on the patch and select the option “Plant Seaweed.”
  • After planting, the seaweed will take some time to grow, taking approximately 30 minutes to fully mature.

Harvesting Seaweed:

  • When the seaweed is fully grown, players can harvest them, gaining between 1 to 4 seaweeds per harvested patch.
  • If using a Gardening Trowel (in your inventory), you can fully compost the seaweed patch to prevent weeds from growing and maximize your yield.

Benefits of Farming Seaweed:

  • Seaweed is an essential ingredient for making potions at the Alchemy level.
  • The farming of seaweed is relatively low maintenance, making it an attractive option for newer players looking to gain Farming experience.
  • Players can also sell harvested seaweed on the Grand Exchange for a profit, especially if market demand is high for potion ingredients.

Extra Tips:

  • Players may also want to consider using tools such as a Fertile Soil to increase their base yield if they want to maximize their profits.
  • Keeping an eye on the Grand Exchange prices for seaweed can help you make informed decisions about when to harvest and sell your seaweed.
