OSRS Low-Level Bossing: Profitable Crazy Archaeologist Kills for Newbies

Hey there fellow Scapers, if youre just starting out in Old School RuneScape and dreaming of that sweet bossing life without needing maxed stats or billions in gear, then listen up. The Crazy Archaeologist is your ticket to profitable kills right in the Wilderness. As someone whos farmed this guy hundreds of times on low-level accounts, I can tell you its one of the best entry points for newbies. Why? Because hes not too tough, drops some solid loot, and you can make decent GP even with basic setups. Ready to get into it? Lets break this down step by step.
Location: Where to Find This Madman
The Crazy Archaeologist, or Bellock as hes sometimes called, hangs out in the ruins south of The Forgotten Cemetery. Thats in level 23 Wilderness, so yeah, youre in PKer territory but dont panic yet. The area is single-combat only, meaning once youre fighting him, no one can pile on you. How do you get there quick? Several ways depending on your levels.
- Dareeyak Teleport: If you got 78 Magic and done Desert Treasure I, grab 2 law runes, 3 fire, 2 air. Pops you right nearby.
- Cemetery Teleport: On the Arceuus spellbook, lands you north of the spot.
- Burning Amulet: Tele to Bandit Camp, head south out the gate, then northwest to the ruins. Cheap and easy for lowbies.
- Trollheim Teleport: Need 61 Magic, then use the agility shortcut (64 Agility) to hop into the Wildy near the ruins.
Pro tip: Always check your tele out options. Royal seed pod or glory amulet works up to level 30 Wildy, but watch for teleblocks from PKers.
Requirements: What Do You Need?
Whats the bare minimum to take this guy on? Not much, honestly. Hes level 204 but super weak to Magic, so thats your go-to style. Heres the scoop:
Stat | Recommended Level | Why? |
---|---|---|
Magic | 50+ (75+ ideal) | For Iban Blast or better spells. Low Magic means slower kills. |
Prayer | 40+ | Protect from Missiles is key to block his ranged hits. |
Attack | 50+ | To wield Iban’s staff (u). |
Agility | 64 (optional) | For that Trollheim shortcut. |
Quests? Finish Underground Pass for Iban’s staff. No Slayer req, which is huge for newbies. If youre on a Slayer task from Krystilia or Konar, even better, extra drops like Larran’s keys.
Gear Setup: Budget-Friendly for Beginners
Dont got BiS gear? No problem. Wilderness means risk only 3-4 items max, so keep it cheap. Focus on Magic bonus and some prayer gear. Heres a solid low-level setup I use on alts:
Head: Mystic hat or even a basic wizard hat. Neck: Amulet of power or glory if you dare risk it. Cape: God cape or basic one. Body: Mystic robe top, or monk‘s robe for prayer bonus if youre skimping. Legs: Mystic robe bottom or monk‘s. Weapon: Iban’s staff (u) best for low levels, or Trident of the seas if you can afford. Shield: Book of darkness or any god book. Gloves: Mystic gloves. Boots: Mystic boots. Ring: Ring of recoil for that extra chip damage.
For super budget: Wizard robes, Iban’s staff, and a farseer helm if possible. From Reddit folks, even darkness robes work fine, but monk robes help with prayer sustain.
Inventory? Pack smart:
- 4-6 Prayer potions or super restores (blighted ones in Wildy).
- 1 Stamina potion for running around.
- High-healing food: Sharks, anchovy pizzas, or monkfish for lowbies.
- Looting bag to store those drops.
- Emergency tele: Glory or seed pod.
- Runes for your spells (death runes for Iban Blast).
Bring about 10-15 food per trip, depending on how good you dodge his specials.
Strategy: How to Kill Him Without Dying
Alright, the fight itself. Hes got Ranged and Melee, but his big threat is the special: “Rain of knowledge!” where he chucks explosive books in a 3×3 area, hitting up to 24 damage. How to avoid? Stay two squares away, run in close when he throws, then back out. Repeat till they blow up harmlessly.
Use Protect from Missiles the whole time, blast him with Magic. Keep distance to dodge melee. No safe spots really, but you can lure him behind northern obstacles for a flinch method: Attack, run back, wait, repeat for zero damage. Perfect for newbies practicing.
Kills take 1-2 minutes with decent Magic. Hop worlds after each kill to skip respawn wait. Aim for 20-30 kills/hour once youre comfy. Low levels might get 15-20, but thats still profit.
Melee alternative? Possible with high Ranged def like Torag’s and whip, Protect from Melee, but Magic is way better and safer for beginners.
Drops and Profit: Why Bother?
Now the fun part, the loot. Common drops are runes (mud, death), cannonballs, sharks, pizzas, silver ore, herbs. Solid stackables. Rares? Onyx bolt tips (12 at a time), dragon arrows (75), rune crossbow, fedora, odium/malediction shards. Average kill worth about 15k GP, but with uniques, spikes to 100k+.
Drop Type | Examples | Rarity | Value (approx) |
---|---|---|---|
Common | Coins (500-4k), Mud runes (30), Cannonballs (150) | High | 5-10k |
Uniques | Onyx bolt tips (12), Dragon arrows (75) | 1/128 – 4/128 | 100k+ |
Rare | Odium shard 2, Malediction shard 2 | 1/256 | Millions |
Profit per hour? Around 300k at 27 kills, but for lowbies, expect 200-400k depending on luck and speed. On Slayer task, add Larran’s keys for extra goodies. Ive had sessions where I pulled 1m in an hour from bolt tips alone.
Risks and Tips: Stay Safe Out There
Biggest risk? PKers. Level 23 Wildy aint deep, but scouts love hopping for easy picks. Set attack options to hidden to avoid skull tricks. Turn private off so friends cant lure you. Only risk what you can lose, like 100k max in gear.
