Starting the Quest
The Freeing King Awowogei subquest begins in Lumbridge Castle’s dining hall, where the Culinaromancer has frozen the Secret Council in time. Your task is to free King Awowogei by preparing his favorite dish.
Inspecting King Awowogei
Head to Lumbridge Castle’s dining hall and inspect King Awowogei at the table. Gypsy Aris will inform you that you need to feed him his favorite dish, but she doesn’t know what it is. She suggests asking Awowogei himself on Ape Atoll. Equip your M’speak amulet and a monkey greegree, then travel to Ape Atoll via Daero at the Grand Tree.
Talking to Awowogei on Ape Atoll
At Ape Atoll, go to the southeasternmost building in Marim, Awowogei’s palace. Speak to the Elder Guard, who will let you in if you’ve inspected Awowogei in Lumbridge. Talk to King Awowogei about his favorite dish. He refuses to share details but mentions three monkeys in the Temple of Marimbo who might know. If you don’t have a banana or monkey nuts, buy them from Solihib’s Food Stall west of the temple for 2 and 3 coins, respectively.
Learning the Recipe
The three wise monkeys—Mizaru, Kikazaru, and Iwazaru—hold the key to Awowogei’s favorite dish. Their dialogue is inspired by the Japanese proverb “See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil,” adding a fun cultural nod to the quest.
Meeting the Three Wise Monkeys
Head to the Temple of Marimbo, north of Awowogei’s palace. In the northwest corner of the ground floor, find the three wise monkeys. Tell them you’re planning a surprise party for the king’s birthday to get them to talk. They’ll reveal that Awowogei’s favorite dish is a stuffed snake, made with a snake corpse, red banana slices, and tchiki monkey nut paste.
Upgrading Ingredients
Present your banana and monkey nuts to the monkeys. They’ll reject them, insisting on a red banana and tchiki monkey nuts for the king’s refined palate. You’ll need to gather these special ingredients and a snake corpse to proceed.
Gathering Ingredients
Collecting the red banana, tchiki nuts, and snake corpse requires specific greegrees and some combat. Follow these steps carefully, as you may need extras in case you burn the dish or accidentally eat it.
Obtaining the Red Banana
Equip your gorilla greegree and head to the northwest coast of Ape Atoll, just southwest of the gnome glider. Use a rope on the red banana tree to pull it down and pick a red banana. Slice it with a knife to get sliced red banana. Grab an extra banana in case the monkeys eat one when you return.
Harvesting Tchiki Monkey Nuts
Use the fairy ring code “CLR” to reach the Ape Atoll Agility Course. Equip your ninja monkey greegree to access the tchiki monkey nut bush. Pick the nuts, then use a pestle and mortar to grind them into tchiki nut paste. Collect additional nuts to avoid repeat trips.
Killing the Big Snake
Travel to Crash Island and enter the large hole in the ground to find a cave with level 84 Big Snakes. These snakes hit hard and are poisonous, so use Protect from Melee and bring antipoisons. Kill a snake to obtain a snake corpse. Grab multiple corpses, as you might burn the dish during cooking. Avoid the cave walls, as additional snakes can spawn and attack.
Cooking and Delivering the Stuffed Snake
With all ingredients in hand, it’s time to prepare and cook the stuffed snake, then deliver it to King Awowogei to complete the subquest.
Preparing the Stuffed Snake
Use the sliced red banana and tchiki nut paste on the snake corpse to create a raw stuffed snake. Be careful not to eat the ingredients or the snake, as you’ll need to restart the process if you do.
Cooking the Stuffed Snake
Return to the Temple of Marimbo on Ape Atoll. Go to the south ladder, climb up, head east, and climb down another ladder. Enter the trapdoor and proceed downstairs to a room with hot coals. Equip your zombie greegree to walk across the coals without taking damage. Cook the raw stuffed snake on the long rock. An animation will show if you succeed or burn it. Boost your Cooking level if needed to reduce the chance of burning.
Freeing King Awowogei
Travel back to Lumbridge Castle with your M’speak amulet equipped. Right-click the cooked stuffed snake and use it on King Awowogei in the dining hall. Be cautious not to eat the snake. Awowogei will enjoy the dish, teaching you the Ape Atoll teleport spell as a reward. Gypsy Aris will teleport him to safety, completing the subquest.
Rewards:
- Access to the Ape Atoll teleport spell
- Progress toward completing Recipe for Disaster
- Further access to the Culinaromancer’s Chest
Fun Fact: The three wise monkeys’ names—Mizaru, Kikazaru, and Iwazaru—translate to “See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” in Japanese, reflecting their quirky dialogue and behavior.
With this guide, you’re ready to tackle the Freeing King Awowogei subquest like a pro. Whether you’re chasing quest rewards or enjoying the lore of Ape Atoll, this adventure is a rewarding part of OSRS. Happy questing!
