How to Complete Heroes Quest Solo in OSRS – Ultimate Guide

The Heroes’ Quest in Old School RuneScape (OSRS) is a challenging yet rewarding adventure that grants access to the prestigious Heroes’ Guild. For solo players, tackling this quest without a partner can seem daunting, especially due to its historical requirement for collaboration. However, with recent updates, it’s now possible to complete the Heroes’ Quest solo, making it more accessible for Ironmen and those who prefer to go it alone. This guide will walk you through every step to conquer the Heroes’ Quest solo, optimized for efficiency and clarity, so you can claim your spot among RuneScape’s elite heroes.

Before diving into the Heroes’ Quest, ensure you meet the prerequisites and gather the necessary items. Proper preparation saves time and prevents frustrating setbacks.

Skill and Quest Prerequisites

The Heroes’ Quest demands specific skills and prior quest completions. Here’s what you need:

  • 55 Quest Points
  • 53 Fishing (boostable with an Admiral Pie from 48)
  • 53 Cooking
  • 50 Mining (boostable with a Dwarven Stout from 49)
  • 25 Herblore (boostable with Greenman’s Ale from 24)
  • Completed Quests: Shield of Arrav, Lost City, Merlin’s Crystal, Dragon Slayer, Druidic Ritual

Tip: If you’re close to the skill requirements, boosts like Admiral Pie or Dwarven Stout can help you meet them temporarily.

Recommended Items

Having the right gear and supplies is crucial for a smooth solo run. Below is a comprehensive list:

Category Items
Combat Good armor, weapon, food (lobsters or better), anti-dragon shield, ranged/magic gear for safespotting
Quest Items Fishing rod, fishing bait, harralander potion (unf) or clean harralander + vial of water, pickaxe, lockpick, 1,000 coins or Ring of Charos (a)
Teleportation Runes for Varrock, Falador, Camelot teleports; Games Necklace for Burthorpe
Optional Stamina potions, dusty key (if below 70 Agility), Summer Pie (for Agility shortcut)

Note: Solo players must choose either the Phoenix Gang or Black Arm Gang path from Shield of Arrav. The Phoenix Gang route is recommended for its simplicity, requiring a 1,000-coin bribe or Ring of Charos (a).

Starting the Heroes’ Quest

Begin your journey at the Heroes’ Guild, located just south of Burthorpe Castle. Use a Games Necklace to teleport to Burthorpe for quick access.

Speaking to Achietties

Find Achietties outside the Heroes’ Guild’s eastern entrance. She’ll challenge you to prove your worth by collecting three items:

  • Entranan Firebird Feather
  • Cooked Lava Eel
  • Master Thieves’ Armband

These items can be obtained in any order, but we’ll outline an efficient sequence for solo players. Achietties provides minimal guidance, so follow this guide to avoid confusion.

Obtaining the Entranan Firebird Feather

The firebird feather requires a trip to Entrana and a pair of Ice Gloves to handle the fiery bird safely.

Getting the Ice Gloves

Head to White Wolf Mountain, located between Taverley and Catherby. Equip combat gear, food, and a pickaxe to face the level 111 Ice Queen and navigate the dungeon.

  1. From Taverley, walk west to White Wolf Mountain’s southeastern foot.
  2. Follow the eastern path north until you reach a rockslide at the northern end.
  3. Mine the rockslide (requires 50 Mining or a boost).
  4. Enter the icy area and go east to find three ladders.
  5. Take the southern ladder down, follow the southwest tunnel, and climb the ladder where Ice Giants spawn.
  6. Descend the eastern ladder, navigate the long tunnel, and climb the ladders at the end.
  7. Run north to the Ice Queen’s lair. Use a safespot (ranged or magic recommended) to kill her and obtain the Ice Gloves.

Pro Tip: Bring plenty of food and use Protect from Melee to mitigate damage from Ice Warriors and Giants en route.

Collecting the Firebird Feather

With Ice Gloves in hand, travel to Entrana. Bank all weapons and armor, as Entrana forbids them.

  1. Take the boat from Port Sarim to Entrana.
  2. Equip the Ice Gloves and head to the northern part of the island near the Law Altar.
  3. Kill an Entranan Firebird (low combat level) and pick up the Firebird Feather.

Warning: Without Ice Gloves, the firebird’s touch will burn you, preventing feather collection.

Fishing and Cooking the Lava Eel

The cooked lava eel requires a special fishing rod and access to Taverley Dungeon. This section is straightforward but requires attention to detail.

Preparing the Oily Fishing Rod

Visit Gerrant’s Fishy Business in Port Sarim to start this task.

  1. Speak to Gerrant about lava eels. He’ll give you a vial of blamish snail slime.
  2. Purchase a fishing rod and bait from Gerrant if you don’t have them.
  3. Use the blamish snail slime on your harralander potion (unf) to create blamish oil.
  4. Apply the blamish oil to the fishing rod to make an oily fishing rod.

Fishing the Lava Eel

Head to Taverley Dungeon, located south of Taverley. You’ll need a dusty key or 70 Agility for the shortcut.

  1. If you don’t have a dusty key, navigate to the southern part of the dungeon and kill the Jailer to obtain a key. Use it to free Velrak the Explorer, who gives you the dusty key.
  2. Use the dusty key on the locked door near the blue dragons or take the Agility shortcut (boostable with a Summer Pie).
  3. Reach the lava pool with Fire Giants and fish for a raw lava eel using the oily fishing rod and bait (53 Fishing required).
  4. Cook the raw lava eel on a fire or range (53 Cooking required).

Note: Avoid the Wilderness Lava Maze for fishing, as it’s riskier and less efficient.

Securing the Master Thieves’ Armband Solo

The Master Thieves’ Armband is the trickiest part for solo players, but with the right approach, it’s manageable. The Phoenix Gang path is recommended for its lower complexity.

Choosing Your Gang

Check your Shield of Arrav quest log to confirm your gang. If you’re not in the Phoenix Gang, visit Katrine (Black Arm Gang) or Straven (Phoenix Gang) in Varrock to switch before starting. The solo Phoenix Gang route requires a lockpick and either 1,000 coins or a Ring of Charos (a).

Phoenix Gang Solo Walkthrough

Follow these steps to obtain the armband as a Phoenix Gang member:

  1. Go to the Phoenix Gang hideout in southern Varrock and speak to Straven. Learn the password “Gherkin” and get instructions to steal candlesticks from Scarface Pete’s mansion in Brimhaven.
  2. Travel to Brimhaven (Karamja ship from Port Sarim, 30 coins).
  3. Visit The Shrimp and Parrot food shop and tell Alfonse the Waiter “Gherkin.” He’ll direct you to Charlie the Cook.
  4. Speak to Charlie, mention “Gherkin,” and learn about a secret wall to enter the mansion undetected.
  5. Head to Scarface Pete’s mansion. Bribe Garv with 1,000 coins or use the Ring of Charos (a) to enter.
  6. Use a lockpick to unlock the northern door to the treasure room.
  7. Search the chest to trigger Grip’s arrival. Attack Grip (level 22) with ranged or magic through the wall’s murder hole until he drops a key.
  8. Pick up the key, unlock the treasure room chest, and take two candlesticks.
  9. Return to Straven in Varrock to exchange the candlesticks for the Master Thieves’ Armband.

Alternative: Black Arm Gang solo play is possible but requires more steps, including obtaining ID papers and navigating additional NPCs. Stick with Phoenix Gang unless you’re committed to Black Arm.

Completing the Quest

With all three items in hand, return to the Heroes’ Guild.

  1. Teleport to Burthorpe using a Games Necklace.
  2. Speak to Achietties outside the guild and hand over the Firebird Feather, Cooked Lava Eel, and Master Thieves’ Armband.
  3. Congratulations! You’ve completed the Heroes’ Quest and gained access to the Heroes’ Guild.

Completing the Heroes’ Quest solo unlocks fantastic perks:
