Step-by-Step Quest Walkthrough
Follow these steps to complete the Garden of Tranquillity quest efficiently. The quest involves charming farmers, planting a garden, and transporting statues, so be prepared for some travel across Gielinor.
Starting the Quest
Head to Varrock Palace and locate Queen Ellamaria in the garden east of the kitchen (south of the palace’s main structure). Speak to her, and she’ll hire you to create a garden, handing you a list of required plants. Talk to her again to receive a trolley, which you’ll use later for moving statues.
Enchanting the Ring of Charos
Travel to Draynor Village and speak to the Wise Old Man north of the bank, with the Ring of Charos in your inventory. He’ll share a story about Queen Ellamaria’s past and ask you to hand over the ring. After giving it to him, he’ll test your worthiness with seven questions. Answer the first six correctly, and the seventh can be any response:
- Show them a range of colours so that they can come to a compromise.
- Take his generous gift even though you have no need for it.
- It’s absolutely, unquestionably the most interesting thing I’ve ever done!
- Put on the silly helmet and jump into the cannon.
- You of course Pkmaster0036, no one could ever challenge your greatness!
- Ask me nicely and I might consider it.
- (Any answer works if the first six are correct.)
Upon passing, you’ll receive the Ring of Charos (a), which you must equip when charming NPCs throughout the quest.
Gathering Seeds from Farmers
You’ll need to persuade five farmers to obtain specific seeds using the Ring of Charos (a). Visit them in any order, but planting seeds immediately after acquiring them saves time. Here’s how to get each:
- Elstan (Delphinium Seeds): North of Falador, near the cabbage patch. Charm him until he asks for marigolds. Plant a marigold seed in the nearby flower patch, wait for it to grow (about 5 minutes), and trade the harvested marigolds for delphinium seeds.
- Lyra (Orchid Seeds): East of Canifis, near Port Phasmatys. Charm her to grow onions in an allotment patch. Plant 3-6 onion seeds, water them, and cure any disease with a plant cure. Once grown (about 40 minutes), trade for 3 pink and 3 yellow orchid seeds.
- Kragen (Snowdrop Seeds): North of East Ardougne. Charm him to grow cabbages. Plant 3-6 cabbage seeds in an allotment, water, and cure if needed. After growth (about 40 minutes), trade for 4 snowdrop seeds.
- Dantaera (White Tree Sapling): At Catherby’s farming patch. Charm her to learn about a dying White Tree on Ice Mountain. Travel to Ice Mountain (near Edgeville Monastery), use secateurs on the White Tree, plant the shoot in a filled plant pot, and water it to create a sapling.
- Brother Althric (Rose Seeds): At Edgeville Monastery. Attempt to pick rose seeds, and he’ll confront you about the Ring of Charos (a). Throw the ring down the nearby well, then pick 4 red, 4 pink, and 4 white rose seeds from the bushes. Retrieve the ring with a fishing rod (this may take a few tries).
Pro Tip: Use teleports like the Amulet of Glory (Edgeville), Ectophial (Port Phasmatys), or Camelot Teleport to speed up travel. Plant the White Tree sapling in the Varrock garden early, as it takes the longest to grow.
Healing the Burthorpe Vines
This step involves curing diseased grapevines to obtain Burthorpe vine seeds.
Steps to Cure the Vines
- Visit Bernald south of the Burthorpe pub, wearing the Ring of Charos (a). He’ll mention his grapevines need healing.
- Use a plant cure on the vines—it won’t work. Speak to Bernald again, and he’ll direct you to Alain.
- Find Alain at Taverley’s tree patch (south of Bernald). Avoid charming him in the final dialogue. He’ll suggest mixing rune dust with a plant cure.
- Use a hammer on rune/pure essence to create rune shards, then grind them with a pestle and mortar to make rune dust. Combine the dust with a plant cure to create a special plant cure.
- Apply the special plant cure to the vines and talk to Bernald to receive 4 vine seeds.
Planting the Garden
Return to Varrock Palace’s garden with all seeds and farming tools. The garden has specific patches for each plant, and you’ll need to plant everything correctly.
Planting Instructions
- Orchids: Fill the two stone plant pots with compost, then plant 3 pink orchid seeds in one and 3 yellow orchid seeds in the other.
- White Tree: Plant the White Tree sapling in the central patch. Ensure it’s watered beforehand, or it won’t plant.
- Other Plants: Plant delphinium, snowdrop, rose, and vine seeds in their labeled patches. No compost or watering is needed except for orchids.
Plants take 10-15 minutes to grow, with the White Tree taking the longest. You can plant everything at once and proceed to the next step while waiting.
Common Issues
Some players encounter issues like the White Tree not growing. Ensure the sapling is watered before planting, and check that all patches are filled. If a plant doesn’t register, try logging out and back in.
Moving the Statues
Once the garden is planted, you’ll need to transport two statues to complete Queen Ellamaria’s vision.
Lumbridge Statue
Teleport to Lumbridge and head to the castle courtyard. Use the trolley on the southern statue (a former king). Push or pull it east across the bridge. Once across, place it on the northern plinth in Varrock’s garden.
Falador Statue
Teleport to Falador and use the trolley on the Saradomin statue south of the lodestone. After a cutscene, push it north through the gate to Varrock’s garden and place it on the southern plinth.
Note: If you lose the trolley or statues reset, talk to Ellamaria for a new trolley. Move quickly to avoid statues respawning.
Quest Rewards and Tips
After all plants are grown and statues placed, speak to Ellamaria, then equip the Ring of Charos (a) and talk to King Roald. He’ll follow you to the garden, triggering the final cutscene.
Rewards
- 5,000 Farming XP
- 1 Apple Tree Seed, 1 Acorn, 5 Guam Seeds
- Compost Potion (4)
- Access to pick White Tree Fruit (restores 8% run energy, regrows over time)

Post-Quest Tips
Keep the Ring of Charos (a) for future quests and interactions, as it reduces costs with certain NPCs (e.g., cheaper boat rides). Revisit the garden periodically to pick White Tree fruit for energy restoration during skilling or quests.
