Starting the Quest
The journey begins at the Ardougne Zoo, where you’ll meet Charlie, the zookeeper, who needs your help to retrieve a ferret.
Speaking to Charlie
Head to the southwest corner of the Ardougne Zoo, just south of the scorpion cage. Speak to Charlie and select the option, “Ah, you sound like someone who needs a quest doing!” He’ll explain that a northern ferret escaped, and Nickolaus, a huntsman sent to capture another, hasn’t returned. Agree to help by selecting, “Sure. Any idea where I should start looking?” Charlie will direct you to Eagles’ Peak, west of the Tree Gnome Stronghold.
Traveling to Eagles’ Peak
Getting to Eagles’ Peak is straightforward with the right teleports:
- Fastest Route: Use a Piscatoris teleport scroll and take the rowboat southeast to reach the mountain.
- Alternative Routes: Teleport with a Necklace of Passage to The Outpost and run northwest, or use Fairy Ring code AKQ and head south.
- No Teleports: Walk from Ardougne, heading northwest past the Tree Gnome Stronghold.
Once at Eagles’ Peak, go to the northern base of the mountain to find a campsite near an agility shortcut.
Navigating Eagles’ Peak Dungeon
The core of the quest involves exploring the Eagles’ Peak Dungeon to locate Nickolaus and gather items to progress.
Obtaining the Metal Feather
At the campsite, inspect the pile of books to find a Bird Book. Click on it to receive a Metal Feather. If you have 25 Agility, climb the rocks next to the campsite for a shortcut to the peak. Otherwise, follow the grey path southeast to reach the top. Use the Metal Feather on the rocky outcrop to reveal a cave entrance and enter the dungeon.
Finding Nickolaus and Collecting Feathers
Inside the dungeon, head east to a Y-shaped intersection, then south to a canyon edge. Attempt to take giant feathers from the southwestern pile, triggering a cutscene where Nickolaus shouts at you. Pick up 10 eagle feathers from piles scattered around the dungeon. Nickolaus, trapped by a giant eagle, needs disguises to escape.
Crafting Eagle Disguises
Travel to the Fancy Clothes Store in southeast Varrock (use Varrock teleport for speed). Speak to the Fancy-Dress Shop owner and select option 2 to request bird outfits. Provide 10 eagle feathers, swamp tar, yellow dye, and 50 gp. The owner will craft 2 eagle capes and 2 fake beaks. If you lose these, you can get replacements for the same materials plus 25 gp.
Solving the Feather Puzzles
To reach Nickolaus, you need three special feathers to unlock a stone door with an eagle carving. Each feather is obtained by solving a puzzle in a different tunnel.
Bronze Feather Puzzle
Enter the farthest southwest tunnel in the dungeon. Attempt to grab the Bronze Feather from the pedestal, which activates a net trap. Operate the four winches in the room’s corners in any order to break the trap and retrieve the feather.
Silver Feather Puzzle
Move to the next tunnel north. Inspect the pedestal and follow a trail by examining rocks: start with the eastern rock, then the northeastern rocks. Inspect the wall opening northeast of the cave and threaten the kebbit (requires 27 Hunter). Select the “taunt” option to obtain the Silver Feather.
Golden Feather Puzzle
Head to the farthest northeast tunnel. Take at least 6 handfuls of bird seed from the pile near the entrance. Pull the lever marked (1) to start the puzzle. Follow a visual guide if needed, as this puzzle involves manipulating levers and seeds. If you make a mistake, use the reset lever outside the chamber. Successfully completing the puzzle grants the Golden Feather.
Completing the Quest
With all feathers in hand, you’re ready to rescue Nickolaus and complete the quest.
Unlocking the Eagle Door
Return to the stone door with the eagle carving. Use the Bronze, Silver, and Golden Feathers on the door (the Metal Feather only opens the dungeon entrance). Equip your eagle cape and fake beak, then click the giant eagle and select “walk-past” to bypass it safely. Speak to Nickolaus and agree to meet him at the campsite.
Capturing the Ferret
Exit the dungeon and return to the campsite (use the agility shortcut or lodestone for speed). Talk to Nickolaus, selecting options 1 and 1. A cutscene will play, teaching you how to catch a ferret, and you’ll receive one in your inventory. Do not release the ferret, or you’ll need to catch another using a box trap provided by Nickolaus.
Returning to Charlie
Teleport to Ardougne and return to Charlie at the zoo. Hand over the ferret to complete the quest. Congratulations! You’ve unlocked 2,500 Hunter XP, the ability to catch ferrets and rabbits, and access to the Eagle transport system.
Post-Quest Tips and Rewards
Maximize the benefits of completing Eagles’ Peak with these tips:
- Eagle Transport System: Return to Eagles’ Peak with a rope to ride eagles to the Polar, Jungle, Karamjan Jungle, and Desert hunting areas. This completes medium tasks in the Fremennik, Desert, and Western Provinces Diaries. Note: Use a rope on the eagle rather than the “Quick-Travel” option for diary tasks.
- Jungle Eagle Access: Bring a teasing stick, thatching spar, or garden cane to grow a vine for the Karamjan Jungle eagle’s nest (takes ~40 minutes). Do this last, as re-entry is delayed.
- Hunter Training: Use captured ferrets to flush rabbits from holes for rabbit snares, yielding rabbit feet for divination potions or necklaces that boost bird nest drops when woodcutting.
Eagles’ Peak is a rewarding quest that enhances your Hunter capabilities and opens new travel routes. Follow this guide to breeze through the puzzles and claim your rewards. Happy adventuring in OSRS!
