The Compost Bin is a useful feature in Old School RuneScape (OSRS) that allows players to create compost, which can be used as a fertilizer for farming. The bin is primarily a part of the Farming skill and is used to convert organic materials into compost, improving the growth rates of crops and increasing their yield.
Location
There are several locations throughout Gielinor where you can find a Compost Bin. Notable locations include:
- The Farming Guild, located in Hosidius.
- The Taverley area, near the farming patches.
- Near the Tree Gnome Stronghold.
- The area south of East Ardougne.
Usage
To use the Compost Bin, players must gather organic materials, such as:
- Fruit
- Vegetables
- Flowers
- Seaweed
- Weeds
- Any other plant material.
Once you have collected sufficient organic materials, you can interact with the Compost Bin to add the items. Compost creation takes a variety of time based on the amount of material used; however, it will typically take around 1 hour in-game time for the compost to mature.
Compost Types
There are two types of compost that can be created:
- Compost: The standard version, which provides a 0.5% growth rate increase and can be applied to any farmable crop.
- Supercompost: A more potent version created by adding specific materials such as bones or herbs to regular compost. Supercompost offers a 1% growth rate increase and provides better protection against disease during the growing process.

After the compost is ready, it can be emptied into your inventory, where it is stored as a compost item.
Tips
- Always ensure a consistent supply of organic materials for continuous farming.
- Consider using supercompost when farming high-risk crops or when attempting to maximize harvests.
- Check the bin regularly, as leaving the materials too long can lead to them becoming spoiled, which cannot be retrieved.
