Cactus (Farming)

Cactus (Farming)

Cacti are a type of crop that can be grown in the Farming skill in Old School RuneScape (OSRS). They are a unique farming crop due to their specific requirements and growth properties. Cacti are suitable for use in making potions and can also be useful for crafting and quests.

Obtaining Seeds

To start farming cacti, players need to acquire cactus seeds, which can be obtained through various methods. These seeds can be found while looting specific chests, searching certain regions in the game, or purchasing them from other players. They are often obtained through the Farming Guild or can be a reward from Treasure Trails.

Planting Cacti

Cacti can only be planted in a cactus patch found in the Kharidian Desert, specifically north of the Al Kharid mine. To plant cactus seeds, players will need a gardening trowel in their inventory. Ranging from level 6 Farming, players can plant 1 cactus seed per patch. The cactus requires no water and can thrive in the harsh desert environment.

Growth Stages

Cacti have a growth cycle that consists of several stages:

  • Stage 1: The seed is planted in the patch and will take about 4 hours to sprout.
  • Stage 2: After sprouting, the cactus will take an additional 8 hours to grow into a fully mature cactus.

Players should regularly check the status of their plants, as they may wither if not tended to after a specific time frame, although cacti are a hardy crop and can endure a longer period without care.

Harvesting

Once fully grown, players can harvest the mature cactus for cactus spines. Each cactus can yield 3-5 spines, which can be used in herblore to create potions or for other crafting tasks. The cactus will not regrow after harvesting, so players will need to replant additional seeds should they wish to continue farming cacti.

Experience and Leveling

Harvesting cactus rewards players with Farming experience, which contributes to leveling up the Farming skill. The experience gained from harvesting is 4 experience points for each cactus spine collected. Players can also gain experience from planting seeds, although the amount is relatively low compared to other crops.

Uses of Cacti

Cacti have a variety of uses in Old School RuneScape:

  • Crafting: Cactus spines can be used to craft items such as dart tips and other useful gear.
  • Herblore: Cacti can play a role in potion-making, and cacti spines are used in creating certain herblore potions.
  • Quests: Some quests may require cacti or cactus spines as part of their completion.

Tips for Cactus Farming

Here are some helpful tips for efficiently farming cacti:

  • Keep an eye on your Farming level: As your Farming level increases, you may also unlock more types of crops.
  • Utilize Farming patches: Make sure to use the farming patches effectively, as they are often spread out across the game.
  • Manage your inventory: Always carry a gardening trowel when you plan to farm to ensure you can plant and harvest whenever needed.

Farming cacti is an excellent way to increase your Farming skill while also earning some useful items for various other skills and quests in Old School RuneScape!
