Beginner OSRS Gold Farming: Tackling Yama, Master of Pacts for Easy Profits

As a long-time OSRS player who’s sunk thousands of hours into bossing and gold farming I’ve found that not all methods are created equal. Some are grindy and boring while others like tackling Yama the Master of Pacts can be exciting and rewarding. But is Yama really suitable for beginners looking to farm gold? Well yes if you prepare right. In this post I’ll guide you through everything you need to know to start farming Yama for those Easy Profits. We’ll cover requirements mechanics strategies and more. Let’s get into it.
What is Yama Anyway?
Yama is this powerful demonic boss added to OSRS back in early 2025. He lives in the depths of the Chasm of Fire and he’s known as the Master of Pacts because he makes deals with players through contracts that change the fight. Why farm him? His drops include high-value items like the Oathplate Armour which is a sidegrade to Torva making it super desirable for PvMers. For beginners this means you can sell those drops for millions of GP per kill if luck is on your side. Plus the fight is duo-focused so grab a friend and split the loot fairly based on damage dealt.
Requirements: Are You Ready to Face the Demon?
First things first you can’t just waltz in and fight Yama. You need to complete the quest A Kingdom Divided. This quest isn’t too bad but it requires decent stats: 70 Magic 60 Hitpoints 60 Mining 54 Smithing 52 Thieving 50 Construction 42 Crafting and 40 Prayer. If you’re a beginner you might need to train up a bit but it’s worth it since the quest unlocks other content too.
Combat-wise Yama demands high stats. Aim for at least 90+ in Attack Strength Defence and Magic. Prayer at 70 or higher for those flicks. Hitpoints? 90 minimum to survive his hits. Wondering about gear? We’ll get to that but don’t worry entry-level setups work if you’re careful.
Accessing him is simple after the quest. Head to the Chasm of Fire speak to the Voice of Yama and sign up for a fight. You can do base form or use contracts for modifiers which sometimes give better rewards but start with basics if you’re new.
Understanding the Fight Mechanics
Yama isn’t your average boss; he’s got phases and tricky attacks that require movement and prayer switching. The fight starts in his lair and he’s aggressive using melee ranged and magic. His melee hits through prayer so stay alert. Max hit? Up to 53 on auto-attacks but specials like Meteor Strike can smack for 121 if you’re not careful.
Phases break down like this:
- Phase 1: Yama attacks normally. He poisons starting at 20 damage so bring antipoison. Use prayers to block ranged and magic but melee always gets through partially.
- Transition at 66.6% and 33.3% HP: He teleports you to side pockets to fight a Judge of Yama. This mini-boss prays against two styles always including ranged so switch to melee and magic. Beat it quick to return.
- Final Phase: Below 33.3% Yama stays put but defenses skyrocket. He launches fireballs if you’re far or swipes with flares up close. Shadow waves and flares spawn; destroy them or they heal him. Big no-no for profits.
In duos mechanics are shared making it easier. One player can handle glyphs for protection while the other DPSes. Glyphs? Yeah standing on shadow or fire glyphs blocks corresponding attacks. Miss it and ouch.
His attack speed is 8 ticks normally but speeds up. If using melee he closes in lowering his magic def; with magic he stays back boosting it. Smart players switch weapons to exploit this.
Recommended Gear and Inventory Setup
For beginners don’t blow your bank on BiS gear. Start with affordable stuff that gets the job done. Here’s a basic setup:
Slot | Item | Why? |
---|---|---|
Head | Neitiznot Faceguard | Good melee def cheap alternative to Torva. |
Body | Bandos Chestplate | Solid strength bonus. |
Legs | Bandos Tassets | Matches the chest. |
Weapon | Emberlight (demonbane) | Deals 84% extra damage to Yama huge for kills. |
Shield | Avernic Defender | If you can afford; else Dragon. |
Amulet | Amulet of Torture | Melee boosts. |
Cape | Infernal Cape | Best in slot but Fire Cape works for starters. |
Boots | Primordial Boots | Strength; Dragon if budget. |
For magic switches bring Ahrim’s or Ancestral if rich. Inventory: Super combats prayer pots super restores antipoison and food like pineapple pizzas. Yama drops pizzas sometimes so that’s handy for long sessions. Bring noted pizzas for practice modes too.
Strategies for Success: Duo vs Solo
Yama is designed for duos so that’s the way for Easy Profits as a beginner. Find a partner on Discord or clans. Coordinate: One lures attacks while the other destroys adds. Prayer flick to save pots. Use Emberlight spec to drain his stats max 80 def down.
Solo? Possible but tougher needs perfect mechanics. Beginners stick to duos. Practice in base form first. Contracts add twists like more adds or buffs but reward extras like aether catalysts for crafting.
Key tips:
- Always watch for glyphs. Step on shadow for shadow attacks fire for fire.
- Destroy flares and waves fast or Yama heals.
- In Judge fights switch styles quick. Melee then magic.
- Contribute damage in duos at least 15% for drops.
- After 10 kills death costs normalize so learn fast to avoid fees.
How long per kill? 5-10 minutes with good gear. Aim for 6-8 kills per hour once comfy.
Drops and Calculating Profits
This is where the gold farming shines. Yama’s drops are rolled per player in duos based on contribution. Uniques at 1/120 solo but scales up in groups.
Main uniques:
- Soulflame Horn: Around 3m GP used for upgrades.
- Oathplate Helm: 67m+ GP.
- Oathplate Chest: 68m GP.
- Oathplate Legs: 68m GP.
- Dossier: For contracts sells well.
- Forgotten Lockbox: 1/33 chance opens for shards.
Common drops: Runes ores weapons and supplies like 3-4 pineapple pizzas saving you money. Tertiary: Pet Yami at 1/2500 or elite clues at 1/30.
Profits? Average per kill maybe 500k-1m from commons but uniques spike it to 10m+ per hour if lucky. For beginners expect 2-5m GP/hr once consistent subtracting supply costs around 100k per trip. Better than skilling methods like woodcutting or fishing for sure.
Tips for Beginner Gold Farmers
Starting out? Don’t rush. Complete the quest train stats via slayer. Join a clan for duo partners. Watch guides on YouTube for visuals. Track your kills in a log to see progress.
Is it risky? Yes deaths cost but first 10 are discounted. Bank your loot often. Contracts can make fights easier or harder experiment with cheap ones.
