Starting the Fremennik Trials

OSRS Fremennik Trials The RuneScape Guide RuneHQ

To begin, head to Rellekka, located north of Seers’ Village. Look for the quest icon north of the town’s entrance and speak to Brundt the Chieftain in the longhall. He explains that to become an honorary Fremennik, you must impress seven of the twelve council members through individual trials. The other five won’t vote for you, so focus on the seven tasks. You can tackle them in any order, but we’ll follow an efficient sequence.

Tips for Starting

  • Grab a beer and keg from the longhall table before leaving.
  • Note that starting the quest disables Peer the Seer’s banking service unless you’ve completed the Easy Fremennik Achievement Diary.
  • Use the Enchanted Lyre or a Rellekka house portal for quick travel.

Completing the Seven Trials

Each trial tests different skills, from cunning to combat. Below, we detail each council member’s task to help you secure their vote.

Manni the Reveller: The Drinking Challenge

Find Manni the Reveller in the longhall. He challenges you to a drinking contest, but his tolerance is unbeatable. To win, you’ll need to cheat.

  1. Pick up a keg of beer and a beer tankard from the longhall table.
  2. Challenge Manni. You’ll lose, as he barely gets tipsy.
  3. Travel to Seers’ Village and buy a Low Alcohol Keg from the Poison Salesman for 250 coins.
  4. On your way back, give a beer to the Council Workman at the Rellekka bridge to receive a Strange Object.
  5. At the longhall’s east wall (near Olaf the Bard), light the Strange Object with a tinderbox and hide it in the pipe.
  6. Grab another keg from the longhall, then use the Low Alcohol Keg on the normal keg to swap their contents.
  7. The lit Strange Object explodes, distracting the Fremennik. Speak to Manni again, drink the swapped keg, and win his vote.

Olaf the Bard: Proving Your Artistry

Olaf the Bard, east of the longhall, tasks you with performing as a bard. This requires crafting and enchanting a lyre.

  1. Choose between crafting a lyre (requires 25 Fletching, 40 Woodcutting, 40 Crafting) or killing NPCs like Lanzig (1/17 drop rate) for one.
  2. For crafting: Head southeast to Lalli’s enclosure. Ask about golden wool, then speak to Askeladden outside the longhall to get a Pet Rock.
  3. Pick a potato, onion, and cabbage from Rellekka’s garden. Combine them with the Pet Rock in Lalli’s stew to earn Golden Fleece.
  4. Spin the Golden Fleece into Golden Wool at Seers’ Village’s spinning wheel, then use it on the lyre.
  5. Take a raw shark (or manta ray/sea turtle) southwest to the strange altar to enchant the lyre.
  6. Return to Olaf, perform in the longhall, and secure his vote.

Sigli the Huntsman: Hunting the Draugen

Sigli the Huntsman, near Rellekka’s entrance, asks you to defeat the Draugen, a level 69 spirit. He gives you a Hunter’s Talisman.

  • Use the talisman’s “Locate” option to track the Draugen’s direction in the Fremennik Province.
  • Look for a transparent butterfly to pinpoint its location. The Draugen moves and can cross bridges.
  • Level 48 Agility helps with the log balance shortcut. Alternatively, camp near the eastern bridge by the strange altar.
  • Engage the Draugen (melee-only, safespottable) and defeat it. Return to Sigli for his vote.

Thorvald the Warrior: Facing Koschei the Deathless

Thorvald the Warrior in the helmet shop requires you to fight Koschei the Deathless without weapons or armor across four phases.

  • Bank all items (use Peer the Seer if needed). Bring food, prayer potions, and 6–7 Rings of Recoil (optional).
  • Descend the ladder in the helmet shop. Koschei spawns after moving through five arenas.
  • Phase 1–3: Koschei is manageable. Heal with food or prayers as needed.
  • Phase 4: Koschei drains prayer to zero and attacks rapidly (1–15 damage). Use Rings of Recoil to reflect damage or let him reduce you to 1 HP (safe death).
  • Winning Phase 4 grants a Fremennik Blade; losing still earns Thorvald’s vote.

Peer the Seer: Puzzle House Challenge

Peer the Seer, south of the market, tasks you with entering his house and exiting the other side, but it’s filled with puzzles. Do this trial last to avoid banking issues.

  • Deposit all items with Peer (mandatory). Enter the house unarmed.
  • Solve a series of logic and riddle-based puzzles (e.g., anagrams, item combinations).
  • Exit through the opposite door and speak to Peer to earn his vote.

Sigmund the Merchant: The Trade Chain

Sigmund the Merchant in the marketplace requires an exotic flower, triggering a long trade chain.

  • Speak to the Sailor (needs a ballad) → Olaf (needs boots fixed) → Yrsa (needs tax break) → and so on, involving multiple NPCs.
  • Complete the chain by delivering items like a promissory note, cocktail, and sturdy boots back to Sigmund.
  • This trial is time-consuming but item-free. Follow the NPC dialogue closely.

Swensen the Navigator: Maze Navigation

Swensen the Navigator, southwest of the longhall, challenges you to navigate a portal maze.

  • Enter the ladder in his house. Each room has four portals (north, south, east, west).
  • Navigate by taking portals in the order of Swensen’s name: South, West, East, North, South, East, North.
  • Reach the end and speak to Swensen for his vote.

Quest Rewards and Benefits

Upon securing seven votes, return to Brundt the Chieftain to complete the quest. You’ll receive a Fremennik name and the following rewards:

  • 3 Quest Points
  • 2,812 XP in Agility, Attack, Crafting, Defence, Fishing, Fletching, Hitpoints, Strength, Thieving, and Woodcutting
  • Access to Miscellania, Etceteria, Neitiznot, and Jatizso
  • Ability to wear Fremennik helms (warrior, berserker, archer, farseer)
  • Free travel to Waterbirth Island with Jarvald
  • Enchanted Lyre for Rellekka teleports (rechargeable)

Why Complete the Fremennik Trials?

This quest is a gateway to the Fremennik quest series and unlocks key areas for resource gathering and progression. The Enchanted Lyre and helm access are particularly valuable for mid-level players.

Tips for Success

To breeze through the Fremennik Trials, keep these strategies in mind:

  • Prioritize Combat Prep: Stock up on food and potions for the Draugen and Koschei fights.
  • Save Peer for Last: His trial removes all items, so complete others first to avoid banking hassles.
  • Use the Wiki Sparingly: Try solving puzzles like Peer’s or Swensen’s for a fun challenge, but refer to guides if stuck.
  • Optimize Travel: Use teleports or the Enchanted Lyre to save time between Rellekka and Seers’ Village.

With this guide, you’re ready to tackle the Fremennik Trials and join the ranks of Rellekka’s warriors. Good luck, and enjoy your journey in OSRS!
