Starting the Quest

OSRSHow To Complete Dragon Slayer 1 Quest 2020 Quick Quest Guide

The journey begins at the Champions’ Guild, south of Varrock. Follow these steps to kick things off.

Speaking to the Guildmaster

Head to the Champions’ Guild and talk to the Guildmaster. Ask for a quest, and he’ll direct you to Oziach in Edgeville, who sells rune platebodies but requires you to prove your worth by slaying Elvarg.

Meeting Oziach

Travel to Edgeville and find Oziach in the house north of the lodestone. Select dialogue options (1-1-1-1) to learn about the quest. He tasks you with killing Elvarg on Crandor Island. Return to the Guildmaster for further instructions.

Gathering Information

Back at the Champions’ Guild, ask the Guildmaster about:

He’ll give you a maze key for Melzar’s map piece and advise you on finding the other pieces, a ship, and a shield.

Collecting the Map Pieces

To reach Crandor, you need a complete Crandor map, split into three pieces held by Melzar, Thalzar, and Lozar. You can collect them in any order.

Melzar’s Map Piece

Location: Melzar’s Maze, northwest of Rimmington.

Steps:

  1. Enter the maze using the maze key.
  2. Kill the small zombie rat with a long tail for a red key. Use it on the northwest door and climb the ladder.
  3. Kill the hooded ghost with a tube top, no cape for an orange key. Go through the second door from the north on the east wall and climb the ladder.
  4. Kill the skeleton with a small round shield for a yellow key. Unlock the southwest door, go down the ladder three times.
  5. Kill zombies for a blue key, then unlock the blue door.
  6. Kill the lesser demon (level 82). Safespot it using Magic/Ranged if needed. Open the magenta door to find the map piece in a chest.

Tip: Bring food and combat gear, as the lesser demon is the toughest foe here.

Thalzar’s Map Piece

Location: Dwarven Mine, Ice Mountain.

Steps:

  1. Talk to the Oracle on Ice Mountain (dialogue 1). Ensure you’ve asked the Guildmaster about Thalzar’s map piece.
  2. Enter the Dwarven Mine and find the magic door in the northeast.
  3. Use the unfired bowl, wizard’s mind bomb, lobster pot, and silk (right-click “use”) on the door.
  4. Enter and search the chest for the map piece.

Lozar’s Map Piece

Location: Port Sarim Jail.

Steps:

  1. Go to Port Sarim Jail and find Wormbrain.
  2. Option 1: Kill Wormbrain (level 2) with Magic/Ranged and use Telekinetic Grab (level 33 Magic) to pick up the map piece.
  3. Option 2: Talk to Wormbrain (dialogue 1-3-2) and pay 10,000 coins for the map piece.

Once you have all three pieces, use one on another to combine them into the Crandor map.

Acquiring and Preparing the Ship

With the map ready, you need a ship to sail to Crandor and a captain to navigate.

Buying the Lady Lumbridge

Head to Port Sarim’s docks and find Klarense on the southernmost dock. Select dialogue (4-1) and pay 2,000 coins to buy the Lady Lumbridge. Board the ship, go below deck, and repair the hole three times using 3 planks, 90 steel nails, and a hammer.

Recruiting Captain Ned

Travel to Draynor Village and talk to Ned in the house northeast of the bank (dialogue 2-1). With the Crandor map in your inventory, he’ll agree to captain the ship. If the ship isn’t repaired or you don’t have the map, he’ll refuse.

Preparing for Elvarg

Before sailing, gear up for the final battle:

  • Weapon: Stab weapons (e.g., rune sword) are ideal, as Elvarg is weak to stab. Ranged users should use a crossbow with the best bolts available.
  • Armor: Full rune or adamant for melee; green d’hide for rangers.
  • Shield: Anti-dragon shield is mandatory. Without it, Elvarg’s dragonfire can hit up to 1200 damage.
  • Food: Lobsters or swordfish (14 HP per bite). Members can use monkfish or pizzas for more healing per slot.
  • Potions (Members): Super attack/strength/defence, antifire potion, prayer potions (if using Protect from Magic).
  • Teleport: Amulet of glory or Lumbridge teleport for emergencies.

Tip: Use the drop trick with Duke Horacio to get extra anti-dragon shields in case you die and lose one.

Slaying Elvarg and Completing the Quest

The climax of Dragon Slayer I is the battle against Elvarg. Here’s how to navigate Crandor and defeat her.

Sailing to Crandor

Return to the Lady Lumbridge in Port Sarim, board it, and talk to Ned (dialogue 1). A cutscene shows the ship crashing on Crandor. Follow the light gray path around the island, climb the volcano, and enter the hole at the top.

Fighting Elvarg

Setup:

  • Equip the anti-dragon shield before entering her lair.
  • Activate Protect from Magic (if available) to reduce dragonfire damage.
  • Drink potions (if using) before climbing over the stalagmites.

Strategy:

  • Melee: Attack directly with a stab weapon. Stay alert for her melee hits (up to 11) and dragonfire (up to 40 with shield). Eat at 20-30 HP.
  • Ranged/Magic: Safespot by standing in the southeast corner, attacking, then stepping back. This “flinching” method is slower but safer for low levels.
  • Low Levels: Flinch by attacking once, retreating Ascend the volcano and enter the hole.

Tip: Open the shortcut wall south of Elvarg’s lair before fighting (Karamja medium task). If you die, you can return via this shortcut without repairing the ship again.

Finishing the Quest

After defeating Elvarg, you automatically collect her head. Teleport to Edgeville or walk back through the dungeon, passing lesser demons and skeletons. Return to Oziach and present the head to complete the quest.

Rewards:

  • 18,650 Strength XP
  • 18,650 Defence XP
  • Ability to wear rune platebody and green d’hide body
  • Access to dragon Slayer tasks
  • Elvarg in Nightmare Zone

Congratulations! You’ve conquered one of OSRS’s toughest F2P quests. Wear your rune platebody with pride!
