Banana tree (Farming)
The banana tree is a Farming-related plant found in Old School RuneScape (OSRS). It is a tropical tree that produces bananas, a fruit known for its usefulness in various aspects of the game, particularly in Cooking and as a food item that provides quick recovery.
To cultivate a banana tree, players must first obtain a banana tree seed. These seeds can be acquired through various methods, such as receiving them as drops from certain monsters or by purchasing them from the Grand Exchange.
Once you have a banana tree seed, you will need to find a suitable Farming patch. The banana trees can be planted in a specific Farming patch located on Karamja Island, south of the Tree Gnome Stronghold. The patch is dedicated to tropical plants and is accessible to players with level 30 Farming.
Before planting your seed, you must ensure the soil is prepared. To do this, use a spade to clear the patch of any weeds or debris, allowing for a smooth planting process. Once the patch is clear, you can plant your banana tree seed by right-clicking on the seed and selecting the ‘Plant’ option.
After planting the seed, it will take some time for the banana tree to grow. The growth consists of several stages, from a sapling to a fully-grown tree. Players may check the growth status of their banana tree by using the ‘Check’ option on the tree.
Watering is not necessary, but using supercompost can increase the chance of producing more bananas upon harvesting, which is especially beneficial for players who wish to maximize their yield. The fully-grown banana tree can produce bananas roughly every 16-18 minutes in-game time, and upon harvesting, players can obtain multiple bananas at once.
Bananas can be eaten directly for a mild healing effect (restoring 2 hitpoints), or they can be used in various cooking recipes. The fruit is also a popular food item for training combat skills, particularly due to its quick consumption time.
Additionally, players can use bananas in several quests and activities throughout the game. They are often required as ingredients for certain NPCs, while also serving as bait for certain mini-games or events.
Moreover, the banana tree is notable for its vibrant and tropical aesthetic, which adds to the immersive experience of the lush landscapes of Karamja. Its distinctive yellow fruit contrasts the green leaves and brown trunk, making it a recognizable and iconic features within the game’s farming mechanics.
When the tree has reached its maximum growth stage and is ready for harvesting, players can obtain bananas by using a right-click and selecting the ‘Harvest’ option. If the player has used supercompost during the growing process, they may receive a bonus as a result.
Once harvested, players may choose to replant the banana tree seed or leave the patch to fallow until they decide to cultivate once again, ensuring a steady supply of this tropical fruit for their adventuring needs.
